The world News 30th August 2009, states in the coverage of the abuse of children in the foster care system, that Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is expected to deliver a formal apology by the end of the year.
At the end of the article, Ms Macklin said, "We have also begun a dialogue with mothers and children separated by past adoption practices which were inappropriate or unethical.
"The government recognises that the pain and suffering of these women also endures."
We would like to sent out congratulations to the generations of children who have suffered while in the care of the foster care system.
Good luck and good on you!

Well done to all the brave souls who have fought long & hard for recognition. Those in the forefront of the battle, and to those who have worked silently behind the scene. The Qld. Trailblazers were one of the first to kick start this wonderful step forward. Not popular with all persons involved in the "adoption debacle", however, let us give credit to their tenacity & integrity, along with Professor Ian Jones whose compassion & understanding of a unique situation is unparalleled.
I am a little skeptical about an apology, as we are yet to hear of the Nationwide extent of crimes that such an apology would correspond to. That is, we have had a parliamentary inquiry but not a national one.
I am not willing to sell my son's birthright (his knowledge of his moving mother) for a bowl of soup (an apology).

Lizzy, If an apology does not sit well with you, simply do not accept same. However, we feel it is a step forward. I am an adoptee & a birth mother. It gives me a balanced view of both sides of the adoption situation. We must respect all points of view, and whilst we may agree or disagree with some, it is not our role to enforce our opinion on anyone. Many mothers are in their "twilight" years, and an apology will be a comfort to them.
Compassion is the key word here.
An enquiry takes time, the result may not please all. Inner peace is more important than a legal victory over the government of the day. We cannot rewrite history, nor should we want to. The Alas "Trailblazers" have shown that all women are valuable and the bond of sisterhood is a formidable force. Our children would be proud of all of us.

Thank you

Small steps. One professional person acknowledging is 100% up on previous.
Strenght to our mothers and significant others who have progressed for all our sakes and our loved children, the mothers and their children who worked before us and the ones who will continue on with the intention to make life for mothers and children better in the future. I take my hat off to you all.
