The 4 th Anniversary of
The QLD FORCED ADOPTION APOLOGY
Next Sunday many people affected by the removal of the
VETO Penalties will be Celebrating,
we never really thought the day would come when that
Illegal un- necessary law would be removed.
It is like a ton weight has been lifted of their Shoulders.
We can all Breathe a huge sigh of Relief,
Freedom to be like everyone else affected by
Forced Adoption.
Now the Adoption Apologies can have a deeper meaning
for every one.
IN QUEENSLAND NOVEMBER 2016
Really good news the Veto law was changed,as from last week ,
There are no longer Fines or Jail time,if a person breaks a Veto.
If you make contact
& the other person does not want contact &
they contact the department
they will be advised
to apply for a AVO which means going to court
& telling a judge why they don't want contact.
This is the final part of the law changes i started out in 1968,
It is a strange feeling to know i can walk away from having to Battle,
Just for our own Information from the Contact Register in 1987
til our Information laws changed in 1990, which saw most of us
pay $50.00 for our own information,which seemed to only get half of
access a page here & there, til in 2010 we finally changed laws again
that's when Post Adoption support Queensland was formed by the
Labor Government,
We kept the lobbying going all along hoping we would get an end

As you all know ALAS instigated to lobby the
Queensland Government , Hon Tracy Davis,
to hold an Anniversary Celebration on the 27 th November
every year, regardless of what day it falls on and to establish a
committee to be set up .
In 2013 ALAS approached Susan Kelly to be co- ordinator,
We asked Sue to contact Linda Bryant Origins, &
Trevor Jordan Jigsaw, if they would join us and invite 2
other members to form this committee,which we did.
ALAS members Trish, Marg & Glenda,
Linda & Rosalee from Origins
Trevor & Heather from Jigsaw
This number was chosen so we would always have at least
one member from each group present at every meeting.
We had asked for a Plaque with the Apology on it,
3 Rose bushes, & 2 Park benches,to be placed in the
Roma Street Parklands.
Unfortunately this could not be done in time for the
First Anniversary
so to mark the date a Morning Tea was held in the
Brisbane City Hall.
We were still working towards the second anniversary
and to have in place, the Plaque, Rose bushes,and
2 Park benches.
The Second Anniversary was held in the
Roma Street Parklands opened by
Hon Tracy Davis but without the bench / seats.
Last year while visiting the gardens, I noticed the Rose bushes
were gone, apparently the Possums had eaten them.
The 3 rd Anniversary was held there, the site looked barren & awful.
Earlier this year i mentioned the state of the Plaque area to
Minister Shannon Fentiman, ALAS members have asked for
the completion of this Very Special Remembrance Area in time
for the 4 th Anniversary Celebration by having replacement plants
around our Plaque & our 2 Park benches / seats as promised and
be ready for use on the 27 th November 2016.
I have suggested to the Minister's secretary that we form another
committee still retaining Susan Kelly as our Co -ordinator
& 3 members from each of the groups who meet at the
moment, both Trevor Marg & myself think this is a good
idea as it has been previously successful.
Shane Bevis the ministers secretary needs us all to agree
on a suitable replacement plant, and he has contacted the
Brisbane City Council and the Roma Street parklands
and also re the bench/ seats.
We all need to work together to prevent any delays.
Shane wants to meet us altogether with the proposals.
ALAS also requests the marquees,chairs,Roses for the survivors
who will be attending to place on the Plaque.
Morning Tea / coffee and juice and finger food.
We also request,a Rose covered signature book for us all to sign.
a microphone & speakers, so the Premier & ministers can talk
to us.In the past the Queensland Government has provided funding
for everything,Previously it was the Liberal Government.
There is much to discuss, lets make this a successful day for us
all to Remember. I see Anita has allotted time at our next
meeting to discuss this issue, regards trish

Last Thursday the ALAS Trailblazers
namely Trish, Marg, Janice,& Lorraine,
caught up with our good friend Ian Jones for morning tea
at the Shingle Inn Queen Street, it was a really lovely day a lot of
laughter, & happiness,its amazing how our lives have changed over
the last 8 years,& all that ALAS has achieved since our
Historic Royal Brisbane and Women's Adoption Apology.
the Apology & Photo sits on the wall,
outside the lifts on level 5 Ned Hanlon Building, without that apology
we at ALAS feel we would still be battling the governments for all the
other Forced Adoption Apologies if it hadn't been for the action of
Professor Ian Jones & Noelle Cridland.

Royal Brisbane & Woman's Hospital
Forced Adoption Apology
7 Years Ago were so thrilled to know we had been listened to
little did we know how that would change the attitude to Forced
Australian Adoption, so many other Adoption Apologies flowed on
from that day, we will always hold Prof Jones & Noelle Cridland
in high esteem, Thank you for changing our lives for the better.

Today we said farewell To our dear member
Glenda, it was one of the best get together's
i have ever been to, so many family & friends,
Marg gave a lovely speech on behalf of ALAS,
many times Glenda's Adoption experience
was spoken about no secrets, i did see
women shedding tears when this was mentioned.
Sandra, Charlie, Brad, & David today was beautiful,
everyone had so many happy memories of their
lives with Glenda in it,

It is with a heavy heart i have to tell you all that we have lost
our good friend & member Glenda.
Glenda, lost her battle to cancer, on Tuesday 23 rd March.2016
Our Deepest sympathy goes to Charley, Sandra,David, Laura,
Bradley & all of her family.
We will miss her greatly, her laughter,& sense of humor bought us all
so much happiness, our monthly lunches,
were always long & very chatty.
Glenda you have left us way to soon, we are all in shock.
Rest in Peace, you are now up with the Angels.xxx

pleasant, the flowers also were pretty, thank you to
