Apology Speech By Professor Ian Jones On Behalf of the Royal Brisbane Womens Hospital
9th. June 2009

Trish, Janice and Margaret were instrumental in creating this ground breaking occasion, where Professor Jones apologized for the past ill treatment of young single mothers during their pregnancy and confinement in the Royal Brisbane Womens Hospital.

With great pleasure the girls accepted the apology on behalf of ALAS.

We believe this is the first time any organization in Australia, and perhaps the world, has officially recognized the cruel practices of the past.

Congratulations on receiving the apology from the Royal Women's hospital in Brisbane.

We knew in our hearts the time would come despite the opposition to voicing the "Truth" over many decades.
They tried to silence us forever.

This barbaric practice perpetrated upon thousands of young women Australia wide from the 1920's to the 1980's (including myself )at St Anne's hospital Mt Lawley Western Australia (now called the "Mercy" hospital)
in 1970.
The legal, and medical "profession" should hang their heads in shame, many knew it was wrong but no one spoke up !!!
The christian/religious organisations (who ran the unmarried mothers homes and adoption agencies) to them I say "More sinned against than sinned."

Adoptive Parents you have a second chance to have some common decency and fair-mindedness about
past attitudes towards Natural mothers and your adopted children. The choice is yours. The Truth is in most cases you did not get our babies willingly.

On behalf of myself and my family Sincere heartfelt gratitude for your wonderful achievement.

Marilyn (Western Australia)
