An Invitation from Kate Cocks

Mothers separated fromtheir children by adoption
In November 2011 Uniting Communities and the Uniting Church in SA issued an unreserved apology to mothers who may have been coerced to give up
their children for adoption and to children who may have been removed from their mothers, through involvement with the Kate Cocks Memorial Babies Home.

Since then many Mothers have told us their stories have been overlooked and want them to be heard. In response we have developed a website to enable this to happen.

We invite Mothers separated from their children by adoption to an information session regarding how your story can be published.

Tuesday 26th February 7pm in Way Hall,
Level 1, 10 Pitt Street, Adelaide.

Funding to Attend Federal Apology in Canberra 21st March 2013.

The Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department has provided Jigsaw
Queensland Inc. with a grant to distribute to current Queensland residents affected by past forced adoption practices who need financial assistance to attend the apology in Canberra on 21 March 2013 or a local viewing event.
Support is available for travel to and from Canberra and up to one night’s accommodation on the night before or after the apology.
Post Adoption Support Queensland has already generously agreed to host a viewing event in Brisbane again and we encourage all support groups to attend this event if possible. Guidelines and application forms will be available from Jigsaw Queensland from Monday 10 February 2013.
Applicants are encouraged to assist others by applying only for the assistance they need.
        * All applicants must be current residents of Queensland and apply personally.
        * · Priority will given to parents separated from a child by adoption and adopted persons
        * · Applicants must be committed and able to attend the apology on 21 March * · There is no funding available at this stage for support persons.
         * · Applicants agree to make their own travel arrangements and cover their own incidental costs.
        * · Amount of funding will depend on the number of eligible applicants and full funding cannot be guaranteed for all applicants. For example, travel and accommodation assistance may be capped.
        * · If funds are oversubscribed allocation may be by ballot.
        * · Funds will be provided for actual expenditures only and receipts will be required in a timely fashion.
        * · Successful applicants will be reimbursed by cheque only. The funding is provided for individuals to attend; however, we are aware that support groups are the best way of identifying and encouraging those people needing assistance to apply.

Jigsaw Queensland, however, accepts sole responsibility for distributing the funds according the Commonwealth Attorney-General's guidelines.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday 20 February 2013.
